“Wow” Display Cabinet

Triggered by a conversation at the Midcentury Modern show in March 2024, SDC-76 was commissioned as a display cabinet for glassware and other precious things. Constructed of Pomelle Sapele veneer, solid Sapele edging and Tabu dyed veneer for the 32 segment starburst, this piece comprises 2 parts - the upper display cabinet for up to 6-7 glass shelves, and the lower base which comprises 6 felt-lined drawers of Sapele and Oak.

The client was incredibly generous with the freedom he gave us in the design, with his overriding objective being “wow” factor. The combination of rounded edges and clean, deceptively simple lines evoking classic mid-century modern styles, offset by the drama of the Pomelle Sapele veneer and then the further juxtaposition of an imposing starburst in blue-grey Tabu veneer, we like to think that we’ve met his requirements. Handcut dovetails for the drawer fronts are a signpost to the quality of the work, while remote control dimmable LED lighting and push-to-open drawers round out the modern conveniences of this imposing piece.
