Shoe Tower

SDC-71

A more conventionally functional piece, but hopefully still with a pleasing design.

The client’s brief was simple - he wanted somewhere to store 6 pairs of shoes so that they didn’t present a risk to life and limb when left on the stairs. The storage was to sit on a landing at the top of said shoe-strewn staircase, it had to have a footprint of no larger than 300x900, ideally it needed to have somewhere to store a small backpack, and a small place for keys, wallet, etc.

Given the small footprint, going up was the best solution - and so the shoe tower was born. American Oak and Black Walnut, blue Tabu veneer, and blue suede drawer lining - because he didn’t want anyone to step on his shoes. We think the slatted doors evoke the modernist architecture of mid-century skyscrapers, and in the spirit of under-promising but over-delivering, it will comfortably store 8 pairs of shoes, not just 6.
